Today some time around 8 P.M. EST bright lights appeared over New York, suddenly illuminating the night sky. Many on twitter exclaimed that aliens have finally descended upon us. Though there might be some better explanations.
We currently don’t have many clues as to what the lights may be, only that heavy presence of emergency personnel are at the scene.
The location is right next to Astoria Generating Co. a large electric power generator. The facility houses Sulfur, Fuel Oil, and Natural Gas.
Sulfur burns with a blue glow as can be seen in the video below. The light is likely reflecting off the low hanging clouds, giving the appearance that it’s emanating from the sky.
Interestingly, the fire seems to not have effected the power, as all lights in the city are still on. No word on what caused the incident yet.
