Investing in Israeli Desalination Tech

Israel has five major desalination plants which contribute significantly to the country’s freshwater supply. These plants include:

  1. Sorek Desalination Plant – Located near Tel Aviv, it is one of the largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants in the world.
  2. Hadera Desalination Plant – Situated in Hadera, this plant also employs reverse osmosis technology.
  3. Ashkelon Desalination Plant – This plant was one of the first of its scale in Israel and also uses reverse osmosis.
  4. Ashdod Desalination Plant – Similar to the others, it provides significant water output through reverse osmosis.
  5. Palmachim Desalination Plant – Located near the Sorek plant, it contributes further to the national water supply.

Of these, three are owned and operated by IDE Technologies of Israel, which is a world leader in global solutions for water treatment. IDE Technologies influences desalination projects across the whole world, as countries like the USA, China, India, and Chile do.

For investors looking into related stocks or investment opportunities, IDE Technologies emerges as a leading market participant. While the general disclaimer is that the current public trading status of IDE must be ascertained, the company is central within Israel to its desalination and broader water treatment technology sectors.

On the other hand, suppliers and consultants that would be engaged in such projects would mean a number of construction, engineering, and technology firms engaged in reverse osminoris and water treatment solutions. Some of such could be handing out various components and engineering services besides essential technologies that enable the working of such multifaceted plants. This might be some of the suppliers to invest in, as they can play a very crucial role in support and sustainment of desalination infrastructure.

With the complexity and specialization in desalination technology, substantial further digging into the above public companies supplying material or consultancy for these plants would be required to make a duly informed investment decision.

Partners/Suppliers

One prominent partner is Alfa Laval (ALFVY (OTCMKTS), a company listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, which specializes in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling, all crucial for desalination processes. Alfa Laval has been a supplier for IDE, providing specialized equipment that enhances the efficiency of IDE’s desalination plants (IDE Tech).

Another significant partner is DuPont NYSEDD, known for its advanced membrane technology for reverse osmosis desalination plants. DuPont supplies IDE with essential materials that improve the quality and efficiency of water treatment processes (IDE Tech).

If you want to look outside of Isreal for desalination investments here are some other options:
