Harvard Releases Updated Numbers on Glycemic Index

The extreme diabetes and weight related problems in the U.S. as opposed to other developed countries has been laid at the feet of widespread sugar and corn subsidies. Harvard has released the latest numbers on the Glycemic Index on dozens of different foods. The data may surprise you as some foods marketed as “healthy” are high on the list.

Some notable figures include:

  • Instant oatmeal(79), has a higher glycemic index than many chocolates(40)
  • Rice milk will spike your blood sugar over twice as much(89) as soy milk(34).
  • Whole wheat bread(74) although more nutritious, is almost equivalent to white bread(75)
